These Single Strand Knots are Destroying my Hair!!!
Also called Fairy Knots (it’s a cruel joke). These knots are NOT CUTE and can cause damage and frustration.
WHAT ARE THEY
SIngle Strand Knots (Medical Term: Trindosis) occur when one strand of hair wraps around another, or wraps around itself, and becomes intertwined. They generally occur near the end and can sometimes, though rarely, occur in multiples
If you have curly/coily hair, chances are you’ve had at least ONE of the ENTANGLEMENTSÂ
HOW ARE THEY FORMED?
Over -Manipulation of hair, especially DRY HAIR. Combing, brushing, Styling etc
Hair that is twisted is separated. Without the use of elastics (satin scrunchies only please), twist your hair and sleep with a satin bonnet or pillowcase.
These dramatically reduce friction and the likelihood of tangling.
2 KEEP HAIR PROTECTED FROM THE ELEMENTS
Everyone loves a good Wash n Go and Twist Out, but leaving your hair exposed can WREAK HAVOC on your hair, especially the ends (the oldest and most fragile part of your hair).Â
Humidity and heat opens hair cuticle and makes it more prone to snagging. That’s where the wind comes in…Loose natural hair + wind = extreme hair movement and TANGLES. Keep it covered and stylish with turbansÂ
3. KEEP IT HEALTHY AND CONDITIONED
Healthy Hair is more moisturised and less prone to tangles.
Â
Deep Conditioning lays your cuticles flat which reduces the risk of snagging and damage. Check out some of our great Moisturising Deep Conditioners,
4. ADOPT A CONSISTENT CLEANSE ROUTINE
Clean, Conditioned hair tangles less. Sticking to a consistent Wash Day routine means that you are detangling on a regular basis.
Always remember to detangle using the proper technique (root to tip) and theproper products.
It’s great to Change Things Up with your natural hair, but remember that sometimes simpler is better.Â
